Jacobs University Chemistry offers a broad education in the chemical sciences and adjacent fields. It forms the basis for interdisciplinary research, for later specialization and for expansion into other disciplines. (more)
The Jacobs University Chemistry program consists of three years and leads to the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. The first year lays the foundation in chemistry, the other natural sciences and mathematics. Lectures and corresponding laboratory classes provide this. The second year focuses on the core education in Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry. Lectures and exercises furnish the theoretical knowledge. Extensive laboratory modules train the practical skills. The third year is devoted to specialization (for example Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computational Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry) and to research: Students do their own guided research projects in the laboratory of a faculty member, which culminate in a Bachelor Thesis. The Jacobs University Chemistry program is a stimulating study environment. The Chemistry Faculty and students work closely together on teaching, learning and research. The program promotes research projects by undergraduates at an early stage involving a tight interaction withgraduate and doctoral students in Jacobs University’s Graduate Program in Nanomolecular Science. The faculty use their contacts to get chemistry students into internships and placements in academic or industrial environments. The Jacobs University Chemistry program leads to a bachelor in a well-defined field. It is compatible with the emerging Chemistry Eurobachelor, the recommendations of the American Chemical Society as well as the entrance requirements for the majority of anglo-american Medical Schools. In this way, it is designed for maximum recognition by employers as well as graduate schools.
